What is the best KPI for you?

It would be so nice to find the magic number that would account for everything instantly. What’s best to measure?

Of course, those who are already immersed in the practice of daily monitoring with KPIs know that it is important to understand and set the relevant data collection. This is where know-how and knowledge is.

Hereunder are some KPIs whose usefulness is confirmed in manufacturing facilities. Some KPIs favor production analysis as it is unfolding in manufacturing facilities and allow intervention on equipment accordingly. Other KPIs are more synthetic and shed light on strategic choices. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measures useful manufacturing time against equipment availability and quality. OEE can be measured for an entire installation, a cell, a product or even a part.

Capacity Utilisation Rate (CUR) has a standard engineering definition of weighted average ratios between actual output to the maximum that could be produced per unit of time with existing plant and equipment.

Delivery in full, on time (DIFOT) is a measurement of logistics or delivery performance within a supply chain. It tells you if the supply chain was able or is able to deliver.

From the customer standpoint, Order Fulfilment Cycle Time is a continuous measurement defined as the amount of time from customer authorization of a sales order to the customer receipt of product.

Rework Level measures the number or percentage of items that require rework and is an indicator of internal operational efficiency.

Initially, all those KPIs were measured and used in a static reporting environment. Reports were daily at best, action obsolete or lost in paperwork at times.
